20 Bulletin Feb 2005 Case Update: The overwhelming support for this case, that is defending our right and ability to protect our environment, has been pouring in over the last few months. Thanks to all of those wonderful people who have offered help in terms of donations or volunteer time. The 20 defendants are committed to defending these allegations and continuing to work for the ancient forests of Tasmania. Ongoing donations from our supporters will be crucial. (Details on how you can donate at the end of this message please tell your friends) Mid Jan saw most of the 20 defendants go to Melbourne and present some documents to the Victorian Supreme court, saying that they will contest the legal suit against them. Over 200 supporters gathered there on the day along with most of the Victorian media. All of the individuals involved in the Gunns 20 case now have some sort of legal representation. The next stage now is to prepare what will be a lengthy defence. The Gunns 20 group is also aiming to set up an office in Hobart along with at least one staffer (see below), so the campaign is growing every day. Positions Vacant: Legal Coordinator /
Office Manager Location: Hobart Job Type: Person/s to coordinate distribution of information and legal processes on behalf of The Gunns 20 group. Manage finances. Liaise with supporters and support groups. Administration of office space and volunteers. Job may be done as one position or split into two. A few hours per week are all that is needed to help with what is an essential task for the campaign. Email: aburling@nativeforest.net , if you are interested in helping out. Data Entry Volunteers needed to help input the generous offers of help that are flooding in. A few hours a week is all that is needed. Experience with Microsoft Excel or Access essential. Office Space / Equipment We have already had a number of offers for space but would still like to hear from anyone else who can donate or provide cheap rent in Hobart. Roadshow Stickers: The fantastic 'So sue me" stickers are available from The Greens Shops in Hobart and Launceston, also at The Greens Salamanca Market stall. The equally great "I love Tassie's forests so sue me too" stickers are also available at the above places and at The Wilderness Society shop. What you can do: Letters to the editor are just one of the many ways that you can help this campaign for Free speech and democracy. Write to your local and national papers telling them that this is an attack on the right to protest and protect the ancient forests of Tasmania.
