A group of sawmillers, wooden boat builders, builders, contractors and craftspeople recently banded together to form Timber Workers for Forests. This group has been highly influential and, importantly, has proposed credible alternatives to the high volume, low value added industrial forestry model favoured by big industry and governments. The group currently has 678 members including Specialists, General Practitioners, Resident Medical Officers, other Health Professionals and Medical Students. It is the name given to the double CD music compilation compiled by the Huon Valley Environment Centre as a forest campaign fundraiser. As one of the defendants in the Gunns case, the Huon Valley Environment Centre needs your help more than ever. The logging of the peninsula has been approved by the Tasmanian Government despite the cultural significance of the area... the chainsaws are only weeks away. Recherche Bay, the landing place of the d'Entrecasteaux expedition (1792-1793), the site of the collection of many botanic species including Eucalyptus Globulus, Tasmania's floral emblem, and the first meeting place of the French and Tasmanian indigenous people, will be logged in the next year unless action is taken now.
