Gunns case against the Wilderness Society collapses. Case continues against 8 defendants. 16 March 2009
It was announced today that Gunns have settled its legal action, commenced in 2004, against the Wilderness Society, Heidi Douglas, Leanne Minshull and Alec Marr. In a remarkable twist Gunns have agreed to pay the Wilderness Society $350,000 to settle the case.
The Wilderness Society have not given any undertakings in relation to future protest action although they have agreed to pay $25,000 in damages in relation to a protest in the Styx valley in 2003. Mr Marr and Ms Minshull also gave no undertakings whilst Ms Douglas gave undertakings which expire in 2011 not to enter Gunns' property or interfere with Gunns' equipment
The Gunns20 case continues against 6 individuals and one organisation. Gunns also have lawsuits outstanding against Royal Hobart Hospital physician, Dr Frank Nicklason, for defamation and 13 individuals in relation to a protest at Triabunna in 2008.
