Legal Terminology
Compensation for a wrong (tort). There are several categories of damage (listed below).
SPECIAL DAMAGES - Out-of-pocket damages that can be quantified.
GENERAL DAMAGES - Compensation for losses that cannot be specifically measured,such as pain and suffering.
AGGRAVATED DAMAGES- Compensation artificially increased for some reason e.g. – to compensate for injured dignity/feelings
EXEMPLARY DAMAGES- Damages to punish (i.e make an example of) the offender.
