Film Night in Hobart a Roaring Success!

Saturday 5th Feb 2005
Over 200 people last night packed the first major fundraising event for defendants being sued by Gunns Ltd. Heidi Douglas (defendant 5) screened three major environmental films to raise money to help cover legal costs for the 20 individuals and groups being sued by Gunns Ltd.

Heidi was over the moon with the big response and said today "Unlike big corporations who have the wealth to afford massive legal fire-power, ordinary citizens like us have to band together and support each other during such a stressful time, and last night's huge turnout really gives us heart that the community is behind the defendants."
"We cannot, and will not remain silent even in the current climate of fear and intimidation, and the films we screened last night celebrated the hope and triumph of the human spirit and free speech over such incredible adversity and odds.
The films screened were "McLibel", "Battle of Bakers Creek", and Heidi's brilliant feature called "Tasmanian Forests: a global treasure, a national responsibility".
The fundraising event took place in a beautiful theatre space above one of Hobart's most popular restaurants "Sirens" in Victoria St.
